Kauai Trails and Hikes
Kauai is a great place to hike regardless of your hiking ability. I have put together a web page of several of our favorites that you can do with a limited vacation. Also there are some great web sites out there detailing all of Kauai's Hikes.

Sites Along Kuamo'o Road in Kapaa/Wailua
There are so many great sites to see along Kuamo'o Road which turns into Waikoko Forest Management Road just past the Keahua Forest Arboretum. If you are looking for something to do with the Jeep you rented, you can take the road all the way to Mt Wai'ale'ale and see Blue Hole. I wouldn't recommend a car without high clearance past the Jurassic Park Gate. (The road condition often is very poor even for a Jeep!)
DIRECTIONS: Take Highway 56 north from Lihu'e toward Wailua. After crossing the Wailua Bridge, turn left on Kuamo'o Road at Mile Marker #6. Coco Palms is located on the corner. The Historic Sites are on the left side of the road. Opaeka'a Falls Lookout is approximately 1 1/2 miles. Keahua Arboretum is approximately 8 miles.

Ke'e Beach / Na Pali Coastline
Ke’e Beach is literally at the end of the road, and probably the most visited beach on Kauai. The famed Kalalau Trail begins at the western end of the sandy beach. Swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving is very good here. Also there is good shore fishing near the reef channel. There are restrooms and picnic facilities.
* Be sure and get to the beach 30 minutes before sunset. Turn right on the beach and walk down the beach at least 100 yards. You will then be able to see the sunset right down the coastline. Every night is different!

Na Pali Coastline / Kalalau Valley Lookout
This fifteen-mile stretch of rugged coastline on the northwest shore of Kauai literally means "the Cliffs." Much of Na Pali Coast is inaccessible due to its characteristic sheer cliffs that drop straight down, thousands of feet into the ocean. Sailing, rafting, helicopter and hiking are the best ways to experience Na Pali's myriad of natural wonders. A must-do Kauai activity. From the far west side of Kauai you can go to this glorious lookout which provides you with a panoramic view of the Kalalau Valley, the largest valley on Na Pali. This point and the less frequented Pu'u o Kila Lookout provides the greatest views of the Pacific. The Na Pali coastline continues on to Ke'e Beach.

Kilauea Lighthouse
Kilauea Lighthouse is the northernmost point of the main Hawaiian Islands. Built in 1913, it had the largest clam shell lens of it's kind. In the 1970's its light was turned off and this landmark was replaced by a low-maintenance light beacon. Native vegetations and an informative visitor center attract thousands of tourists to this site to bird watch and whales when in season. The overlook is a great place to come see the sun rise.

Princeville / Queen's Bath Hideaway and Pu'u Poa Beach
This gorgeous resort area was named after Prince Albert, the son of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma who died in 1862 at the age of four. The area is renowned for its ocean bluff condominiums, full-service resort hotels and spas, world-class golf courses, excellent shopping and international restaurants. Great beaches: Pu'u Poa and Hideaways and a great little hike and swim to Queen's Bath. Queen's Bath is one of the most unique and refreshing swimming areas on the island. The "pool" is carved into a lava shelf and is the size of several large swimming pools This album contains 39 photos

Kauai Waterfalls
Wailua Waterfalls- This majestic, 80-foot tiered waterfall is located close to the roadside lookout for everyone to enjoy. The falls were made famous when they were featured in the opening scene of the popular television show, Fanasty Island. Waipo'o Waterfalls- Is a fantastic waterfall on Kokee stream dropping 800' on two tiers. It is located in the heart of Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Opaeka'a Waterfalls-The falls are approximately 150 tall and flow year-round. There is a nice viewing area off Kuamo'o Road.

Waimea Canyon The Grand Canyon of the Pacific
Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific. The canyon measures 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500-feet deep. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit. The lines in the canyon walls depict different volcanic eruptions and lava flows that have occurred over the centuries. Numerous lookouts and hikes offer terrific views of every aspect of this natural wonder. Koke'e Museum and Park has hiking maps of the area and has cabins for rent. There is also a restuarant located at the park
Be sure and get to the summit before 9:30, that's when the morning mist rolls in and covers Kalalau Valley. This album contains 21 photos
